Pre-Law students from Nova Middle School are once again named champions of the Center for Civic Education’s "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" national competition – earning their fourth consecutive victory and reaffirming their unparalleled dedication and mastery of civic education.

As part of the unique experience, the students traveled by train to Washington, D.C. to take part in the virtual competition held May 15-16. During the event, the group participated in simulated congressional hearings in front of scholars, public officials, judges and other experts, proving their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and government. The enriching trip continued with visits to important sites representing all three branches of government, including tours of the White House, U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court (where all the landmark decisions they have studied took place).

Nova Middle social sciences teacher and coach, Kristin Murphy, in partnership with her husband, fellow lawyer and coach, Will Murphy, instill the commitment, dedication and guidance that has set Nova Middle Pre-Law students apart from the rest in the competition. Together – with two student coaches from neighboring Nova High School – the team conducted drills and practiced throughout their 22-hour journey to D.C. to make sure the team was prepared.

“Our students started working on Nationals last summer,” Kristin Murphy said. “They wanted it and they got it. They got to see that hard work pays off, and that is a lesson that is more valuable than the win.”

On Monday, May 18, they received the exhilarating news that they were four-time winners of the national title, underscoring the school’s unwavering commitment to excellence in civic education and the extraordinary dedication of its students and teachers.
